December's Nibblefest Art Contest Theme: "Mushrooms"
Ah, mushrooms....
"The Mouse Picnic", by Nibblefest artist Patricia Ann Rizzo |
With their shapely outlines and often eye-catching hues, not to mention their perplexing ability to seemingly sometimes spring up overnight, mushrooms have long traditionally held sway in human folklore and imagination. So why is it we often find ourselves so fascinated with the fungus amongst us...?
Might it be because they can be just so delectably delicious....?
Or..., because they can also be so disastrously deadly:

Or..., because they can also be so disastrously deadly:
"Swirly Fungus", Nature Photography by Nibblefest artist Windi Rosson |
(As the old saying goes: "ALL mushrooms are edible. Once.")
"Mushroom Garden", Mini Sculpture by Nibblefest artist Anna Vanover |
Is it because their voluptuous shapes can remind us of familiar everyday objects...?
Like, say... umbrellas?
Rat Art by Nibblefest artist Kathy Clemente |
Or perhaps what calls to mind a comfy cushion, upon which to sit a spell...?
"Alice and the Caterpillar", Pyrography by Nibblefest artist, Lynn Dobbins (of Lynn D Art) |
Commonly mistaken for 'plants', scientifically-speaking 'shrooms are NOT beings of the plant world. In fact, on a molecular level, fungal DNA is in many ways more like the DNA of humans, than of plants:
"Mr. Mushy Makes a Friend", an ACEO by Nibblefest artist Patience (Art of Patience) |
So, while the following quote by Tumerica may ring true:
"....Frustration is the compost from which the Mushrooms of Creativity grow...."
you may be rest assured that our intrepidly creative, hardworking Nibblefest Art Contest artists WONT find themselves frustrated by this month's 'Mushroom' theme...!
