For those unfamiliar with the history of the Nibblefest Art Contest, it all began back in the Fall of 2003..... A debate had been ensuing on the eBay 'Art and Antiques' discussion board (as it was known back then), as to the advantages and disadvantages of starting art auctions with very low opening bids. An experiment was suggested -- an art competition of sorts, friendly and fun, complete with a theme plus the fundamental resolve that all the contest entries would begin at just .99 cents, with no reserve. As such, the Nibblefest Art Contest was 'born'.....
That very first Nibblefest contest was hosted in September 2003, with the theme, 'Cats and Martinis", simply because these were the two most popular subjects for eBay art auctions (by self-representing artists) at the time. The term 'Nibblefest' referred to multiple bidders gradually increasing the auction prices, one wee increment (or 'nibble' if you will) at a time. That very first contest was a smashing success, so much so that despite the fact it was originally actually intended to be just a one-time event, the participants agreed to continue the fun, on the 20th of every month. Who knew back then that Nibblefest would still be going strong a whole DECADE later....!

but not too much....."

of us can remember a time when a birthday -
especially if it was one's
own -
brightened the world as if a second sun has risen...."

September's Theme!
*SPECIAL NIBBLEFEST ANNOUNCEMENT*
This September marks the 10th anniversary of the Nibblefest Art Contest! In recognition of this momentous occasion, the theme for September will be “Birthdays and Anniversaries,” which is already on the official list (followed by the next few month's theme's determined by our ongoing polls on our Facebook Page)
For those of you not familiar with the history of Nibblefest, it was started in the fall of 2003 on eBay's Art & Antiques discussion board (as it was known then) by Lynn Lawson. Nibblefest was intended to be a one-time event and our theme was “Cats and Martinis” because those were the two most common subjects in eBay art auctions (by self represented artists) at that time. The term “Nibblefest” refers to multiple bidders gradually increasing the price on an auction, one increment (nibble) at a time. Everyone had so much fun with the contest that we decided to continue, little suspecting that Nibblefest would still be going strong 10 years later!
Looking forward to all the entries this month commemorating Nibblefest's 10th anniversary!
